Enable Hibernate in Windows 8.1 start-right click

Hibernate is a most useful command in Windows, this avoids closing of apps while users shutdown system. The Hibernate mode saves your open documents and running applications to your hard disk and shuts down the computer,
which means once your computer is in Hibernate mode, it uses zero power. Once the computer is powered back on, it will resume everything where you left off. And we all know these stories.

We all know Windows 8.1 is coming with “Start” button. This start button is right clickable and gives the “WinX” or “Power user menu” in right click. In windows 8, this WinX menu does not contain an option for Shutdown, so most people went with the traditional Settings charm shutdown or geeks like me went with Right click shutdown (click here to see what is right click shutdown)

But with this new WinX menu of Windows 8, there is no option for “Hibernate” and here I am going to explain how to get it.

You can see in this above image we don’t have “Hibernate” option so, 

Press Windows + R to get “run” window and type “powercfg.cpl”

Hit enter. Now you will be lead to “Power options” window.  

        

There click on “Choose what power buttons do”.

Here click on “Change settings that are currently unavailable”

Now some controls are enabled. Scroll down, there you can able to see “Hibernate” option which is not ticked.

Tick it

And “Save changes”. 

Now, right click on start button..

After this change, “Hibernate” will be visible in settings charm shutdown command also.
